Rafael Vidal, a Madrid-born engineer, survived the tragic Spanair plane crash in Madrid in 2008. After undergoing sixteen surgeries and a long recovery, he realized there was a pressing social need to address.

This marked the beginning of a mission to solve various issues for millions of users of crutches, canes, walkers, and more assistive devices, worldwide. From those who need them for a limited time to those for whom these mobility aids are part of their daily life and will use them indefinitely.

In 2011, Rafael founded INDESmed, a company based in Madrid (Spain), along with a team of engineers specialized in bioengineering and medical devices, with extensive experience in medicine and the aerospace industry. He found allies such as surgeon Aleksandar Lovic, whom he met at La Paz Hospital, and together they embarked on this project for the Common Good, starting from the tragic experience that changed their lives.

Today, Rafael Vidal is the CEO of INDESmed, keeps a completely normal life, but his experience inspired him to think about improving people’s quality of life. “Whether it’s walking, seeing, or hearing, I realized that there is much to improve in all assistive technologies to make the world a better place” says this talented Spanish engineer.
